
Scientists create fertile female clones from male mouse cells using CRISPR Y-CUT
Researchers at the University of Yamanashi and Riken BioResource Research Center have developed a CRISPR-based method called Y-CUT to eliminate the Y chromosome from male mouse embryos, generating fertile female clones from male cells. The resulting XO female mice developed normally and successfully produced healthy offspring when paired with male clones. Biologists suggest the technique could assist in wildlife conservation for over 350 endangered species where only male specimens remain.
